General Rules & Deadlines
EXTENDED TO THURS 4/16 - You must enter online prior to dropping off your entry, no exceptions. A one-page (8.5x11) recipe must be submitted.
Monday April 20th to Wednesday April 22nd - all bakers must deliver their entries to St. Philip the Apostle’s Parish Center (101 S. Hill Ave. Pasadena 91106)
Saturday, May 2nd - Finalists deliver their baked goods
Sunday, May 3rd - Great Pasadena Bake-Off & Top 3 in every category announced
Awards
- 1st Place, Runner-Up in each of the following categories:
- Youth 9-12, Youth 13-17, Adult, Industry Professional
- Judged on: Taste - 50%; Originality - 30%; Presentation - 20%
- Judged by: a committee of 6 people
People’s Choice: determined by the number of votes for each contestant
Best in Show (Grand Champion)

Youth Contests Information
- Submit 1 homemade baked item to be judged by 6 people
- Judged on: Taste - 50%; Originality - 30%; Presentation - 20%
- Students may use published recipes or boxed ingredients (i.e. Toll House, Betty Crocker, etc.)
- Winner(s) will receive a prize (trophy, medal, etc.)
Adult Contest Information
- Adult Contestant: Any baker aged 18 or older.
- Industry Professional: An individual who is trained to understand flavors, cooking techniques, create recipes from scratch with fresh ingredients, and have a high level of paid responsibility within the industry. Bakers, chefs, and others who are paid in the industry or selling food for a profit are professionals.

Baker FAQ's:
- When do I need to bake? Please bake your submissions next week, the week of Monday, April 20th.
- When do I need to deliver my submission? Bakers will need to deliver their submission by Thursday, April 23rd.
- Where do I need to deliver my submission? Bakers will need to deliver their submission to the parish office (101 S. Hill Ave. Pasadena 91106) in the Newman Center.
- When is judging taking place? The judges will be scoring your submissions on Friday, April 24th.
- How will I know if I'm a finalist? By Sunday, April 26th you will receive an email from me to notify you.
- What happens if I'm a finalist? Finalists will be given further instructions about re-submissions for our celebrity chef judge in their email announcement. They will be judged on Sunday, May 3rd at the Bake-Off.
- What if I am not a finalist? You will still have a chance to win people's choice! Non-finalists are invited (not required) to resubmit for their baked goods to be sampled by Bake-Off attendees to vote for the People's Choice Award. Voters do not have to sample in order to cast a vote. Voting begins now.
- How can people vote for People's Choice? Every dollar is a vote! Share with your family/friends and invite them to vote for you and support the parish ministry of St. Philip the Apostle. The voting/giving form is here.
- What else can I expect from the Bake-Off? The Bake-Off is an exciting twist on the traditional church bake sale. You will be greeted by ministry booths selling food and other baked goods, supporting their particular ministries. You can participate in the silent auction, and we will have Catholic artist vendors as well. We will have music and other family friendly activities to celebrate our patron!
